Teacup dogs, and especially teacup puppies, will take up a LOT of your time (similar to a newborn baby) for several weeks. They need constant attention for both their health and safety.
Teacup Puppy and Dog Health Issues
The number one health issue is hypoglycemia – a drop in the blood sugar – which can happen quickly and can be deadly. You need to watch him so you can see the signs so that you can either prevent an episode or help him get through one – which means that you have to be around almost 24/7 to monitor him.
Teacup puppies and dogs also seem to have orthopedic issues and dental issues – orthopedic issues (broken bones) because their bones are so fragile, and dental issues because there’s a lot of very tiny teeth in their tiny mouths.
Regarding your teacup puppy dog’s teeth, you can help stave off dental problems by feeding a quality food, brushing his teeth, giving him the right toys to chew on, and taking him for regular veterinary care.
Teacup Puppy Dog Safety
Be careful when handling him using the right amount of grip so he doesn’t jump out of your hands but not so much to injure him.
You’ll also need to be careful walking because teacup dogs and puppies are very quick to get underfoot and you can step on your dog in the blink of an eye. If you step on him, you can easily break one of his bones. Shuffle instead of walking.
And then there are so many hazards around the house ranging from electric dog fences to paperclips.
